In 2022, Justice Michael Black was appointed as a Judge at the DIFC Courts Court of Appeal and Judge in charge of the Digital Economy Court (DEC).

Prior to his appointment at the DIFC Courts, Justice Black has been involved with the DIFC Courts since it was established in 2004. As well as assisting the First Chief Justice, Sir Anthony Evans, in establishing the Courts’ structure and drafting the Rules, Justice Black was also the first Practitioner to be Registered under Part II and appeared in the first trial before the Court of First Instance and the first hearing before the Court of Appeal.

Justice Black served as a Deputy Judge of the Technology & Construction Court in London between 1999 and 2013 and a Deputy High Court Judge (Queen’s Bench Division) between 2008 and 2013.

Justice Black was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1978 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1995.

In September 2022, Justice Michael Black was appointed Judge in Charge of the Digital Economy Court Division.

Justice Philip Jeyaretnam is the President of the Singapore International Commercial Court and a Judge of the Singapore High Court. His focus since joining the Bench in 2021 has been on complex commercial cases, arbitration law, building and construction, company, and trust law. He is also a member of the Judicial Service Commission, and the Presidential Council for Minority Rights.

While in practice, he was a senior counsel, having been appointed at the early age of 38, and recognised as an expert in commercial litigation, arbitration, and construction law in all major legal publications. In 2020, the Law Society conferred on him the CC Tan Award, which honours exemplars of professional values and integrity. He was managing partner of Rodyk & Davidson LLP from 2011, and, following its 2016 combination with Dentons, ASEAN CEO. Justice Jeyaretnam was the founding chairperson of the Society of Construction Law (Singapore), from 2002 to 2004, and served as the President of the Law Society during the years 2004 to 2007.

Colin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He appears as instructed counsel in arbitration and litigation cases, specializing in complex commercial cases. He previously served more than twelve years in the Singapore Supreme Court, carrying out judicial functions in the General Division of the High Court and case management in the appellate courts. Also with experience sitting as presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in various arbitrations administered by the LCIA, SIAC, HKIAC and AIAC, he brings expertise in alternative dispute resolution and mediation. He has played a significant role in legal reforms in Singapore, including contributions to the Singapore International Commercial Court and the drafting of procedural rules. He currently also serves as a member of the DIFC Court’s Court Users Committee.
