DIFC Courts

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 17 June 2010: DIFC Courts, Dubai International Financial Centre's (DIFC) independent, common law judicial system yesterday held an official ceremony in which the traditional scroll of office, quoting H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was presented to the new Chief Justice, Michael Hwang SC.

The scroll was handed over by former Chief Justice Sir Anthony Evans, upon his retirement, to the incoming Chief Justice, in the presence of various senior dignitaries at the DIFC Courts. The scroll, passed on by one Chief Justice to his successor, highlights the importance of instilling and upholding the values of the DIFC Courts and the UAE judicial system as a whole.

The quote by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed mirrors the vision of the DIFC Courts: "A strong and effective justice system will bolster security, and the UAE will be diligent in its duty to defend and uphold the rights, interests and freedoms of all. Everyone will benefit from the judiciary's impartiality and its dedication to fairness and justice."
