Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 19th October 2009: The DIFC Courts, the Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) independent, common law judicial system, are today signing an MOU with the Dubai Courts to work together towards implementing a notary public office, which will operate in English, within the DIFC. The two court systems will collaborate to provide a notary service that can attest official documents, swear oaths, witness signatures and certify true copies.
On the notary office plans, Mark Beer, Registrar of the DIFC Courts said: “The DIFC Courts are pleased to be once again partnering with the Dubai Courts, this time to establish a notary public office, here in the DIFC. The nature of the international businesses and employees within the DIFC mean that they are often dealing with English language documents. The Centre’s community told us that they need an English-language attestation centre to support the global commerce operating from here and we are pleased to explore offering such a service in the DIFC.”
“This initiative is part of our commitment to providing an efficient, full-service court system for the DIFC.”
Dr Ahmed Bin Hazim, Director General of Dubai Courts added: “The Dubai Courts welcome the ongoing direct cooperation and consultation between the two Courts. The notary service for English language documents will provide on this occasion is a useful tool for the DIFC and a landmark addition for the UAE’s courts.”
The English language notary office is the latest example of the DIFC and Dubai Courts’ alliance. The two parties recently signed an MOU to work more proactively together, they also agreed a protocol for mutual enforcement earlier in the year.
