MoU signals further collaboration between judicial bodies in the UAE
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 22 June 2010: The DIFC Courts, the Dubai International Financial Centre's (DIFC) independent, common law judicial system, and the Ras Al Khaimah Courts (RAK), have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their cooperation. The memorandum cements and reinforces the close ties between the two Courts and their ongoing commitment to collaboration and knowledge sharing in order to deliver world-class justice in the UAE.
This MoU with the RAK Courts follows the recent MoUs signed by the DIFC Courts with the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Justice, the Dubai Courts, and the Jordanian Ministry of Justice in ongoing efforts to promote collaboration and cooperation amongst judicial bodies in the region. The latest MoU demonstrates the desire to enhance their shared goals, visions, and missions. Furthermore, both Courts want to promote a mutual understanding of each other's founding laws, procedures, rules and aspirations to enable them to provide transparent, efficient and independent justice through shared responsibilities.
The DIFC Courts and RAK Courts encourage frank and open discussion and exchange of views on the legal and judicial system, regulation of lawyers, as well as ways of enhancing the development of judicial talent. Both Courts share key strategic objectives, including: the desire to increase the understanding of and trust in the UAE's judicial system; clarifying and developing judicial processes within their respective jurisdictions, providing first class service to litigants and Court users and strengthening judicial cooperation at local, federal, regional and international levels.
Michael Hwang, Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts said: "This is a significant occasion and another proud moment for the DIFC Courts. The MoU which we have signed with RAK Courts is an important agreement with a judicial body in the UAE and demonstrates that the two Courts enjoy a close relationship with each other and share a vision to deliver world-class justice in the UAE; one that is reliable, accessible, efficient and fair.
HE Ahmed Mohammed Al Khatari, President of the RAK Courts added: "We are extremely happy to formally document and strengthen our relationship with the DIFC Courts. This harmonization between the RAK Courts and DIFC Courts is a positive step and undoubtedly of benefit to the UAE as a whole.
